Foundation of the Castle

The first stone buildings at the site of the current Helfštýn Castle were built in the early 14th century. A small fort was gradually turned into a vast castle, then converted into a representative palace during the Renaissance. Due to wars, gales, storms, and human decisions, the once magnificent palace has become ruins over the centuries. Between 2017 and 2020, on the brink of total destruction, the remnants of the palace were reinforced, completely conserved, and an architectural installation in a technicist style was added as part of the project “Preservation and Accessibility of the Palace at Helfštýn”. A system of steel footbridges and stairways permit visitors to all levels of the structure. The exhibition presents significant events in the history and development of the palace, as well as preserved architectural elements and selected works of artistic blacksmiths.
